THE NATIONAL ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT STUDY REPORT FOR THE PROPOSED FUEL STORAGE FACILITY

INVITATION OF PUBLIC COMMENTS

PURSUANT to regulation 21 of the Environmental (Impact Assessment and Audit) Regulations, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received an environmental impact assessment study report for the implementation of the proposed fuel storage facility.

The proposed project will involve construction a fuel facility for internal consumption within the factory. The proposed fuel storage will consist of both petroleum and diesel underground storage tanks. The tanks will incorporate four diesel tanks holding a total capacity of 94,000 liters (two 20,000 litres diesel tanks, one for 10,000 and another holding 44,000 litres). The tanks will be fitted with suction pipes, a dipping pipe, a filling pipe and breathers.

The proposed project is located on land parcel No. 530/325 within the existing lumbering factory of Timsales in Elburgon Division, Molo District in the Rift Valley Province.

The project anticipates the impacts and mitigation measures set out in the gazette.

ACCESS TO GENETIC RESOURCE PERMIT BY FAASO
EXPORTERS LIMITED AT TURKANA AND MWINGI DISTRICTS

INVITATION OF PUBLIC COMMENTS

PURSUANT to Environmental Management and Co-ordination (Conservation of Biological Diversity and Resources. Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit Sharing Regulation, 2006), the National Environment Management Authority has received an application for an access permit from FAASO Exporters Limited, of P.O. Box 78109-00500, Nairobi in Turkana and Mwingi Districts.

The activity will involve acquiring the aloe vera from farmers at the specific sites for export.

The National Environment Management Authority will receive oral or written representation or objections in respect to the proposed access permit within a period of thirty (30) days from the date of Publication of his notice to the Director-General, National Environment Management Authority, after which NEMA will review the application with a view to issuing an access permit to the application.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT STUDY REPORT FOR THE PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION OF SOPHIA ESTATE

INVITATION OF PUBLIC COMMENTS

PURSUANT to regulation 21 of the Environmental (Impact Assessment and Audit) Regulations, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received an environmental impact assessment study report for implementation of the proposed construction of Sophia Estate.

The proposed project will involve construction of complex at Sophia Estate in Juja, which was previously used for flower farming purposes. The complex will entail construction of the following facilities –

  1. Apartments – 2 to 3 bedroom (424 units).
  2. Villas – 3 to 4 bedroom (307) units)
  3. Shopping Centre-shops, club house, supermarket, restaurants, bank and ATM, clinic/chemist and offices
  4. Petrol station
  5. Sewer treatment plant,
  6. Educational facilities – Kindergarten

 

The project is located north-east of Ruiru Township in Thika District and will be on plot numbers 13136/11, 13136/12, 13136/13, 13136/14, 13136/15 at Juja, Thika.

The project anticipates the impacts and mitigation measures set out in the gazette notice.
